Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has confirmed nationwide protests demanding payment of Board of Management (BoM)teachers across the country will take place this coming Thursday.

The City legislator has been at the forefront in championing payment of BoM teachers countrywide by The George Magoha-led Ministry of Education.

Babu has now called upon the BoM teachers, their friends and families to join planned nationwide demonstrations this Thursday in solidarity with unpaid Board of Management secondary school teachers.

This comes after pleas to have the teachers paid hit a dead end with ongoing push and pull that has dragged on between schools and The Ministry of Education which saw funds disbursed and then again withheld at some point.

The BOM teachers have been hit hard in the pocket after schools closed down in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, effectively halting their source of income.

In a Tweet on Monday evening, Babu said the protests will happen between 6AM and 11PM.

The confirmation follows a similar announcement this past Saturday by the former University of Nairobi students’ Union SONU Chairman, in which he declared intentions to lead nationwide demonstrations if payment concerns of BoM teachers were not addressed.

The first-term law-maker has been on the forefront championing education causes in the now famous online classes he began teaching himself for secondary school students marooned at home at the start of the Ccovid-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Education could not be reached by this website to comment on the planned demonstrations at the fate of payment for the BOM teachers as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
